Benefits of Dals

One of the most popular dishes that you will find is most Indian kitchens is Dals or Lentils. Dals (with all its varieties) are a staple part of Indian diets and is something that Indian households eat almost on a daily basis. There are 5 or 6 different kinds of Dals that are available and they are most prepared as gravies that you can have with Indian breads or just plain old rice.

Nutrionally too, Dal is considered to be a healthy food. The primary reasons for this are they are considered to be a very good source of protein for vegetarians and most dals are also low on the glycemic index. They are also low in fat. Thus it makes them ideal choice to be a part of healthy and balanced diet, particularly for those people who do not eat meat or eggs.

You can’t go to an Indian Restaurant anywhere in the world and not find a Dal recipe on their menu. If the restaurant does not serve Dal then you can bet my bottom dollar that its not an authentic Indian restaurant. IF you do find Dals, which you must, then definitely the Dal Tadka will be the first dal delicacy that you should try. The Tadka or the Seasoning just makes this dish bold and definitely Indian.

Apart from Dal Tadka, some of the other popular Dal recipes are the Dal Fry, Dal Makhani and Dal Bukhara. All of these are made with different varieties of Indian spices and this gravy can be enjoyed with your favourite rotis or parathas or just some rice if you prefer.

These are just some of the dal recipes and they are several more dal recipes that you can easily make at home and serve your entire family.
