Rice is an important and basic part of Thai food, and jasmine rice (native to Thailand) is used in many recipes and even being cooked plain. Several other common Thai dishes include:
Pad Thai – In this dish noodles are fried to be served with fish sauce, sugar, lime or tamarind, peanuts and egg, mixed with chicken, tofu or seafood.
Pad see ew – Noodles stir-fried along with finely cut pork or chicken, and flavored with fish sauce.
Green curry – This is one of the largely popular Thai recipes for curry. Green chilies, Thai basil and coconut milk are the main elements that are used to prepare the curry paste. Any kind of veggies, meat or seafood are usually added to the curry.
Red curry – It is typically a fiery and spicy curry made by using lots of red chilies.
Yellow curry – A curry that is highlighted by using fresh turmeric, and perhaps containing black mustard seeds, cumin, nutmeg, brown sugar, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, coconut milk and fish sauce.
Gai pad khing – Fried chicken cooked together with veggies and cut ginger.
Tom yam – A spicy and zesty soup prepared along with seafood (often shrimp) or poultry.
Som tam – Grated papaya salad. There are quite a few variations: the salad may be served either with salted black crab, with peanuts, shrimps and palm sugar, or with salted fish, eggplant, and long beans.
Satay – Though it is an Indonesian preparation, but Thai cooking is also famous for preparing satay. Satay is basically a kind of chicken or pork delicacy made by grilling the meat on skewers. It can be complimented with peanut sauce or cucumber salad.
Thai dishes also include many herbs for instance basil, cilantro and coriander and not surprisingly Chili. Thai folks eat more chili per individual than anywhere else on the earth. The most usual method to make your food fiery and spicy is to use Thai chilies. With all of the spices that are in Thai diet you will get loads of flavor and no need to include so much salt and sugar and additional flavorings that are bad for your diet. This is my own view that this might be the cause for less diet and food linked health problems in Thai people. Thai dishes are simple, appetizing as well as nourishing so have a wholesome cooking!
