Greek Food – Awesome Array Of Greek Desserts

There are many fantastic Greek sweets and several simple recipes, but the ones in this article are probably the simplest. They are perfect as gifts or to serve guests and really easy to make and need no stove time, the tough part is pronouncing their name if anything.

Honey Puffs – Loukoumathes (Loukoumades) In many areas of Greece, Loukoumathes (also loukoumades) are a New Year’s Eve tradition, and they are also prepared to celebrate the name day of St. Barbara (December 4). The Greek Jewish community also includes these small honeyed puffs at Hanukkah. They are quick and easy to prepare – twenty min start to finish. Serve up hot or warm, and drizzle with honey just before serving.

Semolina Pudding – Halvas Halvas made using semolina, nuts, raisins, and cinnamon is a delightful, grainy textured dessert, and one of the very famous Greek sweets.Halvas is served at room temperature and is placed in a mold and cooked on the stove.

Sesame Honey Candy – Pasteli Nuts and seeds are used a lot to make this dish which is often called the energy bar. It is a good dessert to be had with tea and is said to give an energy boost.

Sugared Almond Cookies – Kourabiethes Mixing tahini (sesame paste) and honey has long been a Greek favorite Kourabiethes is relatively easy to make and makes for wonderful festival gifts. Its good for health and in Greece it is often used as bread spread.

Traditional Greek Spoon Sweets (Preserves) – Glyka Koutaliou Spoon sweets are similar to preserves, prepared with fruit, nuts, or vegetables, cooked with sugar to generate a thick syrup. As they’re so sweet, they’re served by the spoonful, hence the name. A conventional offering to guests, spoon sweets can also be used as dessert sauces and condiments. They are easy to prepare – by and large a matter of boiling the fruit with sugar. Decorative jars filled with these treasures are delightful gifts.
