For the syrup, you’ll need two tablespoons of lemon juice and two-thirds cup of sugar. One-third cup of anko, peaches or oranges will function as toppings for the dessert.

Soak kanten for an hour and shred it into parts. Put one and two-thirds cup of water in a pot and heat. Add the kanten parts and sugar. Boil, and simmer for 10 min while stirring. Pour the fluid in a flat vessel and let cool. Put one-fourth mug of water and two-thirds cup of sugar in a pot and boil. Put in lemon juice and let cool. Slice the kanten jelly into tiny cubes, add the fruits and pour the syrup in. Put anko on top and serve.

Onimanju is a cake with sweet potato. To bake this, you will need three-fourths lb of satsumaimo, break into cubes; small cup of sugar, a cup of all purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of shiratamako flour, and two tablespoons of milk. Douse the satsumaimo in water for fifteen min. Drain and sprinkle sugar, setting it aside for 30 min. Drain it again, this time keeping the liquid, adding in the flour and shiratamako. Mix up and add in milk. Throw in satsumaimo cubes, obtain a spoonful of dough and put on parchment paper. Steam for 10 min, let cool, and serve.
